Whether I know the person or not makes a very small difference. Honestly, the situation was sad, and I’m glad the person is okay. However, since he’s unharmed and the damage was solely to objects (Which, regardless of expense are temporary), I feel like my joke was fine, if perhaps too soon. Honestly, yeah, perhaps I shouldn’t have made it, but think of it this way.
When you laugh at an accident, or at a racist joke, or at a youtube video of people failing and physically injuring themselves, you’re doing the same thing I am. In fact, you’re being even more of a douchebag because you don’t know the person, or their conflicts, or the consequences. You feel safe because you’re anonymous. Don’t throw around judgmental quotes like you have moral authority or superiority over someone.
